A Terrific Thursday with Schwartzman, Tsonga, Monfils and… Goffin

Today was a day to remember at this year’s European Open. The public was treated with tennis of the finest level with the 4 quarterfinals in doubles and the last matches of the second round in singles, with the blockbuster between Jo-Wilfried Tsonga (ATP-75) and Gaël Monfils (ATP-38) as a climax.

David Goffin (ATP-12) also paid a surprise visit to the tournament, to the great joy of his fans. After a signing and selfie session in the public village, he was interviewed on court by tournament director Dick Norman, to who he declared being very disappointed not to be able to play on home soil. “This tournament is really well organized”, declared Goffin. “I have dealt with the fact I won’t be playing anymore this year, but will do all I can to come back.”

On court, Monfils and Tsonga treated the public with their powerful strokes and acrobatic movements. A tweener from Monfils made the public go crazy.

Earlier in the day, second seed Diego Schwartzman (ATP-17) qualified for the quarter finals after a win over Cameron Norrie (ATP-87). Other qualifiers of the day were first seed Kyle Edmund (ATP-15) and Ilya Ivashka (ATP-97).

On this Thursday, the ladies present at the tournament, were put in the spotlight. All of them received a well filled goodie bag with products from Louis Widmer, Chalo snacks and a women’s magazine. After that, they were invited for a glass of cave at the Freixenet bar.
