Gauthier Onclin from Liège wins the European Open pre-qualifications tournament!

Antwerp, September 5, 2021 – The 20-year-old Gauthier Onclin won the European Open pre-qualifications tournament, which took place at TC Forest Hills in Wommelgem on Sunday afternoon.

The Liege native, who is coached by Steve Darcis, beat Zizou Bergs in two sets (6/2 and 6/4) to qualify for the European Open qualifications draw. Earlier in the day, Joris De Loore won the third-place match against Arnaud Bovy by 6/3 and 6/4.

The losing finalist Bergs (22), one of the sensations of last year’s European Open in Antwerp, still has a big chance to qualify directly. The highest ranked Belgian, after Goffin on September 20, also receives a wildcard for the main draw of the European Open.
