Antwerp, 15 October 2021 – The European Open handed out the final wildcard for the main draw. Richard Gasquet (ATP-81), winner of the 2016 edition, makes his appearance again in Antwerp.
The entry list of the European Open is in full swing one day before the draw. No less than eight Belgian players will be playing at the Lotto Arena: sensation of 2020 edition Zizou Bergs (ATP-188) plays in the main draw and Michaël Geerts (ATP-295) plays the qualifications of the singles tournament, Xavier Malisse plays doubles with his pupil Lloyd Harris. There will also be 4 other players playing doubles: Joran Vliegen and Sander Gillé will come to the Lotto Arena again, as well as Ruben Bemelmans and Kimmer Coppejans. Gauthier Onclin won the pre-qualifications and will enter the qualies of the European Open.
The organization saw some top players like Felix Auger-Aliassime (ATP-11) and Grigor Dimitrov (ATP-28, semifinals of Indian Wells) dropped out at the last minute.
Richard Gasquet, the winner of the first edition in 2016, will be back in Antwerp. The Frenchman received the last wildcard for the main table. Due to some shifts, Holger Rune (ATP-124) is also sure of a ticket for the qualifications. His vacant wildcard goes to Michaël Geerts.
The Dutch player Botic van de Zandschulp (ATP-66) will play in the main draw of the tournament. It will be great to welcome him to our tournament. Other really exciting players getting into the main draw: well-known names as Francis Tiafoe (ATP-49) and Benoit Paire (ATP-50) will bring the show to the Lotto Arena.
The Next Gen will be strongly represented at the European Open. With players like Jannik Sinner (ATP-14), Alex de Miñaur (ATP-27), Lorenzo Musetti (ATP-62), Holger Rune and of course Belgian Zizou Bergs -the youngest Belgian talent- will for sure be present.
