Today, our Media Day took place at the European Open with no less than Andy Murray, Stan Wawrinka and David Goffin on the programme.
In the Lotto Arena press room, champions Andy Murray, Stan Wawrinka and David Goffin spoke in a “question and answer” session to the press at the European Open.
“I have made a lot of progress over the past month and I am particularly happy that my hip is no longer hindering me,” Murray stated. “Why did I choose Antwerp? There are several reasons, one of which is important because my wife is highly pregnant and I don’t want to be too far from home. I still remember the Belgian atmosphere from the Davis Cup final in 2015 and it fitted my schedule perfectly.”
Wawrinka, a three-time Grand Slam winner, was also satisfied with the future. “I feel welcome here and I am very happy with the wildcard the organization has given me. I had a good season and I don’t want to focus too much on the title this week. Let’s take it a day at a time and see how it goes.”
Goffin very confident
Goffin, in his turn, has just finished a great Asian tour and says he is playing with a lot of confidence at the moment. “The field of participants in Antwerp is very strong this year, but since I was injured last year and couldn’t participate at the time, I don’t have any more points to defend. . I take a day at a time, but I’m playing well and I feel glad to be back.”
Tomorrow Murray
Super Tuesday, Andy Murray, crowd puller, makes his first appearance on the battlefield. In his first round, he will face Kimmer Coppejans, who will add a Belgian touch to the British Night. Steve Darcis will also finish his first round of his last tournament on Belgian soil, which will undoubtedly create emotions in the stands.
