The European Open immediately opens with a number of first-class matches. “With such a list of players, it is inevitable that there will be some exciting matches on the programme,” tournament director Dick Norman looks ahead.
The eighth edition of the European Open promises to provide fireworks again. Northern neighbour Botic van de Zandschulp (ATP-67) will take on 21-year-old Swiss Dominic Stricker (ATP-88) in the first round. The winner of this battle will already have to face first seed Stefanos Tsitsipas (ATP-6) in the second round. Also noteworthy: compatriot and former ATP Finals finalist David Goffin (ATP- 99) will play his first match against Quentin Halys (ATP-76).
Furthermore, a French duel is also on the menu: Arthur Rinderknech (ATP-68) faces the five-year younger Hugo Gaston (ATP-94). Not only in singles, Belgians are ready to take to the tennis court at the Lotto Arena. In doubles, we are presented with two Belgian duos. Zizou Bergs (ATP-181), who will try to qualify for the maindraw in singles, will play together with compatriot Thibo Colson (ATP-481). Michael Geerts (ATP-262) could also shine again at the European Open, and that with Gauthier Onclin (ATP- 206) at his side.
Tournament director Dick Norman: “With such a list of participants, it is inevitable that there will be some exciting matches on the programme. We are of course very much looking forward to seeing our best-seeded player, Stefanos Tsitsipas (ATP-6), in action. However, we don’t have to wait for Tsitsipas’ match for spectacle. A lot of matches in the first round can also only make for top tennis.”
